Who is LMAIS?

The Lake Michigan Association of Independent Schools (LMAIS) is a non-profit consortium of 35 independent schools located in the Chicago Metropolitan and Northwest Indiana area.

Established in 1947, LMAIS

• promotes and advances excellence in education for independent school students and their families
• promotes and clarifies the unique independent school brand in marketing and recruitment activities, and
• encourages and supports a friendly and cooperative relationship among member schools.

All member schools are accredited through the Independent School Association of the Central States (ISACS). To understand more about the rigorous standards associated with accreditation, click here.

LMAIS hosts its member schools at three general meetings each year, bringing together various affinity groups from the schools to share best practice, discuss current trends, and build collegiality among LMAIS member schools.

Special meetings host professional speakers specializing in education, leadership, and school law.

LMAIS also provides parents with a directory of member schools, and a calendar of admissions events including open house and school tour dates as well as special events open to the public.
